Nintendo DS SP Contrary to earlier rumors, Nintendo will not be releasing a redesigned Nintendo DS any time soon. Putting things into consideration, releasing a new DS design doesn’t make much sense now anyways - especially considering how well Nintendo’s portable machine has been selling both here and in Japan.

Head Shaking GamerA 9-year-old boy was ordered to stop playing video games. As odd as it sounds, turns out that after playing a lot of video games over his winter break, he began noticing that his head was uncontrollably jerking back and forth. As a result, his doctor ordered him to stop playing PlayStation - and sure enough, his head stopped jerking. It’s too bad this kid ran into trouble most likely as a result of playing video games - and it seems really unusual. However, console and game manufacturers do suggest limiting your hours playing games and watching out for seizures and the like.

Xbox 360 Sales

On Friday, Reuters reported that Microsoft has sold a grand total of 600,000 Xbox 360s in the United States. Initial sales reports from the end of November indicated that Microsoft had sold 326,000, so an additional 274,000 since then isn’t horrible. Of course, we’d like to see more unites on store shelves, but that just wasn’t possible around launch time. Maybe it’s about time Microsoft shipped less units to Japan and more, instead, to the U.S.

Burnout Revenge 360

We’d be lying if we said Burnout on Xbox 360 didn’t look amazing. Still, I’m not completely sold on the game. Japanese Box Art

Hardcore Gaming 101 has posted an interesting feature, entitled ‘Japanese Artwork of Western Games’. Basically, the story features image comparisons of U.S. game box arts (for games like Prince of Persia, Halo, and Ratchet and Clank) compared with their respective Japanese artwork. Some of the Japanese artwork is anime, and we were honestly surprised by a few of the boxes.

Nintendo DS SPAccording to various sources online, Nintendo is set to unveil a new design for its portable DS system very soon. As is, the portable machine has been selling very well so a redesign would only pull more people in. We’re all for it and looking forward to seeing what the new DS looks like (should Nintendo unveil one).

PopCap GamesSure, we’ve always know that games are good for your brain - but the general public hasn’t. PopCap, a casual games designer, has joined up with The Games For Health Project ““to gather, evaluate, and share research on the use of digital games and cognitive health.” Sounds good to us. Once the study’s completed (and it shows that games are indeed good for our brains) then hopefully the masses will come to appreciate games moreso.

American Wasteland

While some gamers have complained over the years about the Tony Hawk series and a supposed “lack of originality,” the series is still selling surprisingly well - apparently not everyone feels that the games have become stale. I, for one, have always been a huge fan of the Hawk series and I really enjoyed American Wasteland. While some other Xbox/PS2/Gamecube Activision games haven’t sold as well as expected, it looks like Hawk’s probably at least meeting expectations. Activision also had a big hit on their hands with Call of Duty 2, the biggest seller at the Xbox 360 launch.
